Above is Part 1 of the interview I did with Scott Helman at Deer Lake Park in Burnaby, BC on June 30, 2018, before he opened up for Vance Joy.
Scott shares his first memory of picking up an instrument, the influence of friends and family, going to an arts High School, Dadaism and surrealism, the influence of art on his songwriting, David Bowie, and what he wants his message to be.
In Part 2, Scott speaks about songwriting, his parents divorce, the songs “Ripple Effect” and “21 Days”, using music for healing, loving the people you’re with, his album Hôtel de Ville, winning back his girlfriend, and finding healing in Montréal.
Thank you to Charlotte who helped arrange this, and to Mallu Pimenta for filming and photographing the chat.
